Introduction
Every organisation manages physical things: equipment, tools, vehicles, public infrastructure. Yet the information about them is usually scattered across spreadsheets, paper records and disconnected systems. Cloud Item, founded in Bavaria by Andreas Neumair, gives every physical object its own digital twin, so its information lives in one place for its entire life.
How it works?
Cloud Item assigns each physical object a unique digital identity: its TwinID. Everything connected to that object, from documentation and inspections to maintenance and ownership, is linked to its twin. Modular apps built on Cloud Item's platform then automate the processes around it, and the platform's patent-pending technology works as a distributed operating system for physical assets.
One platform, many applications
Because the platform is modular, the same technology can serve very different needs: asset management in companies, IoT applications, and public-sector use cases, where authorities must keep track of large numbers of objects and prove their condition.
Why we funded?
Digitising the physical world is one of the largest remaining opportunities in software, and it starts with giving every object a reliable identity. Cloud Item provides that foundation with a patent-pending platform that can be applied across industries and the public sector. It's also a strong example of German engineering in the OVC portfolio, close to the heart of our investor network.
