Introduction
The meat industry works with a raw material that is never the same twice. Every animal is different, while customer demand keeps changing, and matching the two is traditionally done with experience and spreadsheets. The result is waste, lost value and tight margins. Völur, based in Oslo and led by CEO Anna Turvoll, brings AI to one of the world's oldest industries.
How it works?
Völur's platform uses AI to plan and optimise production. It forecasts supply and demand, and decides how each raw material is best used to meet customer orders. Decisions that used to take planners hours are automated, so processors get more value out of what they produce and waste less of it.
Better for margins and for the planet
Getting the most out of every animal isn't just good business. Less waste means lower environmental impact for every kilo produced, making Völur's technology part of a more sustainable food system. Its research has been supported by the Research Council of Norway.
Why we funded?
Food production is a vast industry where small efficiency gains translate into large value, and where digital tools have been slow to arrive. Völur combines deep AI expertise with a clear focus on one demanding industry, and it has grown from a Norwegian research-backed start-up into a company with international ambitions. Its technology could also extend beyond meat to other complex production processes.
